Photographic archives at the Galleria Estense of Modena
The archives began in the early twentieth century, when then-director Giulio Bariola promoted a photographic campaign, that later became part of the archives of the Soprintendenza for Beni Culturali for the Provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia (1939 - 2014). Today it houses a collection of around 8,000 photographic plates, 50,000 negatives and 10,000 colour photographs as well as digital files of the museum collections of the Galleria Estense, the Museo Lapidario Estense, the Palazzo Ducale of Sassuolo and works of art catalogued by the Sopraintendenza of Modena and Reggio Emilia. They are available to users by appointment between Monday and Friday from 9am-1pm.

Photographic archives of the Biblioteca Estense Universitaria
The photographic collection of the Biblioteca Estense Universitaria goes back to the 1960s when the institute began a campaign of manuscript microfils which ceased in the 1990s. The library owns around 18,000 microfilms (there are microfilms of the manuscripts in the Este and Campori collections) which are available for consultation and interlibrary loan. Over recent years the microfilms collection has expended to include slides (more than 16,000) and digital files. The Library also preserves numerous photographic prints of various manuscripts and Henry Fox Talbot calotypes. Reading Room users have access to 25,648 microfiches connected to different global bibliographical archives and collections, amongst which are the Bibliotheca Palatina, Bibliothek der Deutschen Literatur, Incunabula: The printing revolution in Europe, 1455-1500 and Index der antiken Kunst und Architektur.
Photographic archives of the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Ferrara
The photographic archives of the Pinacoteca are currently held by the Polo Museale of Emilia-Romagna.
